Deep Creek Dunk XV

The Deep Creek Dunk was held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in McHenry Maryland, and our crew was there to witness it. If you like to raise money for charity and jump into freezing waters, then the Deep Creek Dunk is the event for you. For the past 15 years, The Special Olympics have been teaming up with the Maryland State Police, The Maryland Natural Resources Police, and Pizzeria Uno’s to host this wonderful event. The goal of the Deep Creek Dunk is to raise as much money as possible for the Special Olympics, raise your freak flag by dressing up, and take the icy plunge into the freezing waters of Deep Creek Lake. MSP and NRP cut out a huge whole in the ice behind Pizzeria Uno’s where thousands of enthusiastic patrons dive, swim, splash, and wade in the cold water to show their support for the cause. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for citizens with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. An estimated amount of over $175,000 was raised this year.
