Are you looking for a winter adventure that chills you to your core but leaves you feeling warm inside? Deep Creek Dunk 2019 may be just what you’re looking for this season! This annual event draws participants and spectators to the shores of Deep Creek Lake for a polar plunge into the icy waters of Maryland’s largest freshwater lake. Slated for February 23, 2019, the lake should be just the right temperature to awaken all your senses!
The Special Olympics of Maryland (SOMD) raises money to support over 7,000 athletes who participate in competitive games and activities across the state. All year long, SOMD athletes train and compete in one of 27 different sports, and reap the benefits of the programs both on and off the playing fields. With a mission to provide athletic competition for persons two years of age or older with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics provides opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy and friendship with other athletes and the community.
Now in its 21st year, the Deep Creek Dunk has become a moniker for the warm spirit of giving back to a special cause. Since its inception, individuals, groups, and organizations continue to step up to create a day of fun and camaraderie to support this beloved fundraiser in support of Maryland’s Special Olympic athletes.
If you have a group of friends or colleagues who want to take the plunge at the 2019 Deep Creek Dunk, it’s easy to register or donate for this SOMD February event. While you’re at the lake, spend the weekend with us at Blue Moon Rising Resort where you’ll feel warm and cozy after a chilling day in the icy waters of Deep Creek Lake.
